CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER, GA
Chattahoochee River NRA, Atlanta, GA
July 18, 2018
Due to high water levels and high E.Coli bacteria levels in the waters of the Chattahoochee (yikes!), we were unable to get on the river as planned. Fortunately, Ranger Dave had a great backup plan for us: trail maintenance! Ranger Dave taught us the basics of maintaining drains and swales, and our crew of 10 volunteers got to work clearing drains and lopping out brush to clear corridor. We were also joined by four American Conservation Experience crew members who helped supervise the crew. By the end of the day, we brushed about .25 mile of trail and cleared about 6 drains on the trail. Other noteworthy encounters included a copperhead and a huge, tarantala-like burrowing spider.
