On Saturday, Dec 7, the group arrived and received an overview of the park's history from the president of Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy. The park is considered the career masterpiece of Beatrix Farrand, who was America's first landscape architect. However, it fell into disrepair over the years, so the Conservancy is now working to restore the land. The group cut away a significant amount of invasive species (almost exclusively bamboo), which was taking over a large piece of land. The group also help moved sand bags that will be used to help contain water erosion from the stream that runs through the park.
The team of 16 volunteers removed 1,500 square feet of invasive species and moved 750 lbs of sand.
Big thanks and great work to everyone who made it out!
