Where to stay

Best Western Adirondack Inn

Most often, I find myself camping in the backcountry, but if I were to stay in town I would choose the Best Western Adirondack Inn in Lake Placid. With views of the lake, right in the heart of town, breakfast includes, and clean cozy rooms, for a decent price, you really can't go wrong!

WHERE TO HIKE

Mount Marcy

Mount Marcy is the tallest point in New York State; it's a long but fairly easy trek to beautiful 360 degree views of the park. A great beginner high peak with beautiful views that isn't such a long day would include Cascade and Porter right off of Route 73.

MUST SEE LANDMARK

The Stanley Hotel

If you are a movie junkie, this place inspired the greatest horror movies of all-time: The Shining. In fact, it was upon visiting the hotel in 1974 with his wife that King began to dream up this storyline as he roamed the halls at night.

WHERE TO SEE SUNRISE/SUNSET

Field by Adirondack Loj Road

An absolutely stunning sunset spot, that many drive right by is the open field where Route 73 meets Adirondack Loj Road; between Lake Placid and the Town of Keene.

QUINTESSENTIAL SCENIC DRIVE

Route 73/86

Route 73/86 from Keene Valley to Saranac Lake area is absolutely breathtaking (especially in Autumn!), To be honest, many of the roads through the park are quite beautiful but this one always tugs a little extra on my heartstrings!

SECRET SPOT

John’s Brook Swimming Holes

If you leave from The Garden parking lot and hike in to the DEC Ranger Station right on Johns Brook. From here cross the bridges and walk down towards the brook - there are STUNNING pools for crystal clear water swimming! Perfect on a hot summer day after a long hike!

WHERE TO REFUEL

Big Slider Brewery

Right outside of Lake Placid, this hybrid brewery serves up delicious locally sourced meals and offers 10 different interesting brews.

WHERE TO ENJOY A COLD ONE

Lake Placid Pub & Brewery

This place has three floors; hang out on the first floor and play corn hole around a fire or enjoy the decks with gorg eous views of Mirror Lake.

SELFIE SPOT

Indian Head & Fish Hawk Cliffs

This nearly 10 mile hike is mostly flat on Lake Road, until it ascends 720 feet to an elevation of 2700 feet. This hike provides beautiful views of the Great Range beyond Lower Ausable Lake.

RADICAL ACTIVITY

River Rafting

Without a doubt, white water rafting is gnarly. Available all over the park and sure to give you the adrenaline rush you're looking for. Be sure to go in Spring/ Early Summer if you desire rushing rivers!
