A few weeks ago, our CEO and cofounder Keith Eshelman volunteered in Coldwater Canyon with TreePeople, a Southern California based environmental advocacy organization. This 45-acre park nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains receives over 200,000 visitors a year but does not receive any funding, so the work of volunteer organizations like TreePeople is vital to the park’s upkeep!

The team of 10 worked to remove invasive species, such as thistle and black mustard which become a source of fuel for fires in the summertime. After removing the invasive species, volunteers worked to restore the area to a habitat that is natural through planting and taking care of native plant populations. Thanks to these volunteers, another park is left “better than we found it” through ensuring its habitat is preserved.

We hope this story inspires you to get outdoors and volunteer! Check out our volunteer events and get involved here.
